Derwent Copse

Derwent Copse
Image size: 560mm x 760mm

I drew Derwent Copse in May 2019 at the North-West corner of Derwent Water Lake in the English Lake District.

I had barely started walking around Derwent Water looking for a suitable subject when this beautiful copse of mixed woodland came into view. I actually tried to walk on, but couldn‘t. I was drawn back to it, knowing this would be the day‘s composition. There was something about the brightness of the sun on the leaves, casting inviting shadows on the gentle bank of deep grass under the trees, that gave the scene a rare delicacy. I worked fast, starting at about 10am, because I knew that the bright sunlight would change rapidly at that time of day, moving the shadows. Luckily I had a sun hat with me, but my arms were burned by the sun.

Derwent Copse is drawn on 300 gsm heavily textured watercolour paper that measures 560mm x 760mm. The edges of the photograph of this picture match exactly the edges of the paper on which it is drawn.

Derwent Copse is not a print, and so is not one of many in an edition. Rather, it is a unique and original piece of art.

The price shown includes postage and packing for delivery to a UK address.
